Entry Level Mics for the Kodak Zi8
If you are really curious what different microphones are out there, Steve Garfield and Adam Weiss conducted some independent entry level mic tests.
They do a very thorough job... and be sure to watch for the quick clip from the Mr. Microphone commercial - funny.
To see some more videos shot on a Kodak Zi8 check out Steve's mom's videos like the "I Can't Open It" series. Millie Garfield is doing a great job demonstrating who is online these days. Obviously talent runs in the family.

Comment: Well I see no answer to wireless mics....How about making a DVD that can play in any DVD unit. How can you do that with the ZI8 and its MOV files. By the way the software included is worthless. Can any body help !!

Comment: the zi8 is a great step for kodak and the mobile videoproduction. the external mic input works awesome for me. to make this gadget perfekt there should be a headphone out to use it as a livemonitor for the recorded audio. maybe for the zi9? ;) cheers from germany dotdean

Comment: Pretty interesting advice, I think there are certain times when you can trust someone with everything you know, but you're probably right in that most of the time you should only teach them how to bait and cast and let them figure the rest out on their own.

Comment: Need to show how to change the microphone gain, also the User Guide doesn't list a microphone impedance.I would use Kodak Zi8 for quick stand ups in form of Scoble Ch#9 interviews . But someone need list what type of microphone to used Zi8 !

Comment: Hi PAWeissenstein, I've had great luck with (2) ATR-3550's and a headphone splitter. It goes to a mono channel, but when I export the audio I send out a mono signal. I've also used a BeachTek clone adapter to bring two mics into the Zi8 giving me the ability to adjust the volume on each mic. I'll do a video on this. Thanks.

Comment: Would have liked more detail in the article but it's a short post with good links and it gets across the point that one can use external mics w/this camera. Would like to see another article in future dealing with how to use multiple mics on the the Zi8 both with and without a preamp. The idea of a portable studio for good quality interviews is very intriguing to me.
